(no subject)

Somebody please remind me to make an eye appointment tomorrow. I'd hate to delay this further and find out that, as with the dental benefits, my medical program has decided to offer ophthalmological services only to children and pregnant women. Surely nobody wants me to have to get pregnant just so I can see a doctor.

Today I finished up something that's felt like a huge weight on my chest (not shoulders; weight on the shoulders would allow me to breathe easier than this). Do I feel better now? Eh, immediately upon finishing, another necessary thing came to consciousness which took its place as the weight on my chest. I would prefer not to make a habit of this. A life as one of those people who always has to feel majorly stressed about something really does not appeal.

I met someone. I said goodbye to someone else. Some things which could be going horribly are instead turning out surprisingly well. Other things which could be going well are instead falling to pieces. This is called "life" and I have violently mixed feelings about it.

You all nearly got a rant from me a few hours ago. I'd made the mistake of looking at some news articles, you see, and there are few things that'll get me foaming at the mouth more than people telling me that war is peace and freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength. Instead of ranting, I decided to get offline and read more science fiction stories. Good move. Reading histories that could have been and never were helped to bring perspective. Tonight I can watch the final episode of Angel in peace and save the foamy ranting for some other day.

i have mixed feelings about life, too. i want things i can't ever have and have things i am only supposed to want, and it can be a mess. but it can also be bliss at moments.

looking at the news is very hard these days. i don't respect myself for practicing a kind of denial, but it's the only way for me to keep going.

I alternate between avoiding the news and following it avidly. There's really a lot of interesting stuff going on--I mean, aside from the depressing things happening, the science news sometimes makes me feel like I've ended up in a cool SF novel. But learning new things about what people are doing that they shouldn't be doing while politicians & pundits try to tell us that a real patriot wouldn't complain about the bad stuff Our Side is doing... well, sometimes a personal news blackout is a necessary thing.

You sound like me...once you figure out One Thing, Another Thing comes crashing along...look at the bright side...at least it isn't Many Things at Once...well, usually...

and hey....hopefully you get these in your email and can save this to remind you...
Make Appointment EYE DOCTOR

Well, it is more than one thing at a time--I just have trouble concentrating on it all at once. Gah. I would so love a little bit of breathing room, but that isn't going to happen this week.

Thanks for the reminder! ::grins back::

Oh, people. I keep hoping to meet Martians instead, but they're awfully shy.

What kind of glasses are you going to get?

Assuming I can get any, that may be my health plan's choice rather than my own.

"people"

could you vague that up for me?

MAKE YOUR EYE APPOINTMENT TOMORROW!

Get some post-it and stick it on the computer screen for stuff like that. Works for me.

I don't really know (ok i don't know at all) what's falling to pieces for you and what the thing about saying goodbye is, so I'll offer random snuggles and remind you I'm always around for random rants.

::sigh::

If I'm lucky, I'll be able to figure out how to make an appointment before the end of business hours tomorrow.

Wish I could call for you.

/me snuggles.

::hugs you::

You can rant if you want, y'know.

I will always read you.

Hee! Believe me, I'm not afraid to lose readers if I rant. I think some of the folks hanging around are disappointed that I don't rant more often!

It's funny and ironic when people don't realize they're employing Newspeak, and that this is a bad thing. A really, really bad thing.

And it was hard to resist the urge to link to news articles where somebody or other in high position is basically saying War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, or Ignorance is Strength. It's frighteningly easy to find multiple examples for all three.

Sadly, Minitru is not played by a tiny Eliza Dushku.

I actually heard someone (reporter or politician, I forget which) say "fighting for peace" the other day. Made me feel like beating him up, to fight the spectre of physical abuse.
