A Heart of Pure Cheese

Yahoo's Launch finally reached an agreement with EMI, one of the big record labels who hasn't been allowing their music to be played on Launchcast stations. So here I am, listening to my own station, and being of course very happy that I can finally hear old, previously unavailable albums by Queensryche and the Tea Party. But what makes me squeal with geeky joy? Hearing Right Said Fred's "Don't Talk Just Kiss" and Duran Duran's "Save a Prayer."

I've got a heart of pure cheese and I'm loving it.

it was annoying to me that i rated you-know-who #1, 100%, etc., and though for a while they ran one or two songs by me, on the whole his stuff just wasn't there. and they won't put his photo in the #1 spot. business, feh. glad you're enjoying DD, though. hungry like the wolf? for cheese!

HAHAHA, i wrote "though for a while they ran one or two songs by me." i guarantee, not once did they play any of my own songs. the fools.

Hmm. On his discography page, three of JA's albums have "on Launchcast" symbols by them, but of course that doesn't mean you can hear them on your own station if the record company disapproves. But you should at least be able to hear them on the JA fan station.

The record label craziness is interesting to follow. The agreement with EMI apparently means that Launch can add a whole bunch of new albums to their database, but they are not allowed to play anything by the Beatles, solo albums from members of the Beatles, or anything by Garth Brooks. Not that the lack of Garth Brooks is such a loss. ::smirk::

Shame on them for not playing any of your music! Really, you must have your people talk to their people.

oh, they do? i hadn't checked his own page in a while, will go do so right away. does he know i love him yet? :D

now, don't be so down on ol' garth. i loved his one hit as chris gaines so much, i bought a two-song cd at wal-mart. i'd have liked garth better as a rocker, of course...

AND he was hilarious when he guest-starred on Muppets Tonight. he wore costumes and at one point started dancing, shouting "let's MAMBO!" my kinda guy.

okay, so you can't download it, but you can listen to it any time you want online?

Launchcast is more like a radio station you can help program. You can't decide when you'll listen to a certain song or artist, but you can rate everything (songs, albums, and artists), so that music you've rated 100 will be played more often than music you've rated 80 or 47 or some lower number. And you can click on the bottom of the ratings scale to make sure you never hear that particular song, album, or artist again if you don't want to. In between playing music you've rated, the station plays music it thinks you might like--either because it's popular with other folks on launch, because it's popular with other folks who like the music you listen to, or because it's in a genre you've rated highly. And you can listen to other people's stations as well as stations made by Launch staff, rate songs there and have those ratings affect your station next time you listen. Plus you can skip over songs you don't feel like listening to, which is a big plus in my book.

"I'm too sexy for my shirt" indeed.

thanks

i'm way to sexy for this shirt.

that was what I wanted to know most--that you can skip a selection entirely.

It tops my "jukebox", because, while I have about a thousand tracks I am not familiar with, my hd doesn't automatically give me NEW music that I haven't experienced yet.

Just subscribed to "your tastes"!

Well, a lot of the stuff I listen to isn't cheese, but cheese was what hit the spot today!

As a free user I can't subscribe to anyone else's tastes, but I'll give your station a listen next time I have the chance!

::thankies::

hummingwolf!

Bear here.

since i have 13,923 ratings last time i checked
i mostly hear stuff that i've already rated . . .

mostly listen to my "mellow" mood(new age and smooth jazz) . . .

don't think you have rated much in those genres . . .

karen and the kitties always wanna zone out . . .

i really *dislike* wearing headphones . . .

scanned the other threads on this post . . .

you explain launchcast *really* well . . .

since you are the queen of lucidity . . .

no surprise there . . .

okay if i link to your post?

ttfn,

Bear
