Special Delivery

A conversation about tea and coffee this evening brought back memories of having tea delivered to the house when I was a child. Since tea delivery is something nobody else in the chat remembers, I'll ask you: Does anybody else out there remember Jewel Tea? While we're at it, did you get big cans of potato chips and other snacks & stuff from Charles Chips?

On Sunday mornings before church in the early '70s, when other boys were delivering newspapers, my brother had a bagel route. As far as I know, he never threw anybody's bagels in the bushes.

If I can get it together I am supposed to send you some decaf tea.

I love Charles Chips. The pretzels in the big metal can are still a fond memory. Alas, CC went to bags in recent years.

Heh, bagel boy.

Yeah, I saw the bags when I looked on their website. Shame, really.

Decaf tea! Mmm... tea.

the HUUUGE "charlie chip" can was where my parents stashed all the spare change and called it a vacation fund..

since they never took us on those vacations, my brothers and i called it the "supplemental allowance" fund.
my dad tried everything to keep us out. he even put a large screw into it..
guess he should have locked up the power tools as well. cordless screwdrivers are handy things.

sigh. i miss that can.

I got Charles Chips! I was wildly allergic to soy, so they were the only chips I could eat. I remember that delivery van.... *sigh*

All the other chips available had soy? Huh, that would be a pain. At least somebody else remembers Charles Chips! Nobody but me seems to remember Jewel Tea.

don't remember tea to the door, but we did have the Borden man come around with milk deliveries. he was so at home, was John, that he'd just come right into the neighborhood houses and put the milk in the fridges, chatting up the ladies. that would be unthinkable now!

Oh, our Jewel Tea man used to sit at the kitchen table for hours (or it seems that way in retrospect) talking to my mother and trying to convince me to convince her to buy more stuff. :-)

I don't know why I didn't remember this lastnight, but I think my mom still has some Jewel Tea bowls.

Somebody else remembers Jewel Tea! Good to know I haven't gone senile yet.
