Ow.

The last time I was in this particular kind of pain for this long (and isn't it fun when life provides the oppportunity to become a connoisseur of pain?), a doctor gave me a prescription for Ultram, which, while it did take the edge off the pain, also deranged my brain enough that for an entire month I couldn't even think well enough to realize that I needed to stop taking the medication because I couldn't even think well enough to realize that I needed to stop taking the medication because I couldn't... yeah. Even if I were able to get through my new (assigned) primary care provider's voice mail system, I'd want to avoid that route.

Anyway. I'm reading what all the thoughtful people on my LJ reading list are writing, but I hope you'll forgive me if I don't comment much for a while. It's hard to think up any intelligent responses when the main thought in my head is "Ow."

is the pain in the back of the calf? is there any swelling or redness? if you stretch your leg out straight on the floor and then bend your toes back toward your upper body, does the pain get worse? sorry to be pesky, but i worry about unexplained leg pain. sorry you're hurting, cb.

No, it mostly feels like somebody set my hips and thighs on fire, occasionally driving a hot spike down through my knees and into my lower leg if I twist or stretch the wrong way. The last time I felt this particular flavor of pain, I'd been doing lots of work with a physical therapist. I guess the thighs are the part of my body I've been using the most often lately, but there really isn't a good reason that I know of for my muscles to do this to me right now. Maybe I'm deficient in some nutrient or other, but I can't really afford to buy all the supplements on the store shelves right now. Gah.

But thanks for asking. :-)

Dang, CB, are there no provisons for semi-emergencies, so that you could get a 'scrip pain killer?

I haven't been able to speak to a human being at my new PCP yet. No idea what would or would not be available if I could get hold of anybody, though I rather seriously doubt they'd give prescription painkillers to somebody they never heard of before.

FUDGE.

I suppose the over the counter stuff is doing squat.

Any chance you can just go to a plan provided doctor for a walk in? Assuming that you are well enough to walk.

Going to the local emergency room is a possibility growing more and more likely. I don't know how to do a walk in or anything else on this plan.
