Harold Camping's judgment
Monday, May 23rd, 2011 09:09 pmYes, I simply had to listen to Harold Camping's first live broadcast on Family Radio after the May 21 Rapture didn't happen. Not sure how long I can keep listening--he's rambling and I feel sorry for him, while at the same time finding him rather irritating.
The Family Radio folks don't believe in Hell, do believe that God is a merciful God who would not punish people for eternity: the dead are dead and gone, not resurrected to suffer again. He read a listener's letter on air and seemed to bring up the possibility that the Day of Judgment would have been on May 21 this year if not for God's unwillingness to punish the world for even five months (the world is still supposed to end October 21). Yet May 21 was supposedly some date of spiritual significance and Camping's fault was reading the Bible too materialistically? I dunno.
The first part of the end of the world began May 21, 1988, when God brought his judgment on all of the church congregations. People have been saved outside of the churches since September 7, 1994, if I understand the rambling right. Now he's taking a break from talking and I may give up on this shortly.
For the morbidly curious: Family Radio's website can tell you how to listen. "Open Forum" is the radio program I'm attempting to follow right now. (For locals: 107.9 FM is the station from Annapolis.)
Ah, he's back. May 21 this year, God brought judgment on the world, even though nobody noticed a difference. The judgment will continue till Oct. 21, when the world will be destroyed. May 21 may have been a spiritual judgment, but October 21 will be a quick, physical destruction, he says. He is convinced that his dates and proofs were all correct, and Jesus did in fact come back on May 21, and Family Radio has no need to talk about Judgment Day anymore. They'll just be playing music and having programming telling those who are already children of God how to live godly lives.
Now he's taking questions from journalists.
