God bless all air conditioners
Saturday, July 24th, 2010 11:24 pmThe Sun is angry and wants to kill us all.
Even now, hours after sunset, the Sun is merely lying in wait, biding his time. He may choose to restrain himself tomorrow, perhaps allowing a rainstorm to cool us down. But first, he wants us to know that the only reason life on Earth continues is because he has not yet chosen to destroy us. Not quite yet.

So today I was hoping to go out and do something fun--or at least hang out with friends someplace relatively cool. As it turned out, though, my body warned me that going anywhere today could prove disastrous. Of course, if the air conditioner in my room couldn't take the heat, staying at home could also prove disastrous. And after last night, when the poor little unit couldn't quite make up its mind whether to cool the room down or not, I was too tired to argue with my body, but rather concerned about what a possible lack of A/C might do to me when my regularly-scheduled migraine hit. Fortunately, during the worst heat of the day, the brave little machine cooled things down nicely and only needed to rest about once an hour before going back to its work. Good little air conditioner, please don't die yet!
Spent most of the day either reading or trying to catch up on last night's sleep. Also spent some pleasant time eating food bought Thursday, when I spent much too large a portion of my income at the farmers' market. At least the money goes to keeping local farmers afloat so they won't feel the need to switch back to tobacco farming, so that's a long-term benefit for everyone even if it does somewhat reduce my present cash flow.
In the evening after sunset but long before things cooled off (it's almost 11:30 and they haven't cooled off), I listened to the old Tears for Fears album Songs from the Big Chair. Then for some reason I felt compelled to listen to an album they released ten years later, Raoul and the Kings of Spain. It's odd how I'd managed to forget all the events and emotions I associated with that album, all because of an accident of timing. I should probably listen to that album again tomorrow. Maybe it will help to put some ghosts to sleep.
Speaking of sleep, this might be a good time for me to try to get some. Here's hoping tomorrow will be less uncomfortable than today.
