Hummingwolf Today
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 09:55 pmNow feeling: Much too hot. Can we please have spring back now? There really isn't any need for us to have summer so early in the year, is there?
Now hearing: Neighbor's air conditioner running and a housemate rummaging around in the kitchen.
Now wearing: Dark blue thrift store jeans which fit fine this morning, were too loose this afternoon, and are a bit tighter again now. (Hormones are weird.) Also, pretty light blue embroidered shirt bought a couple years ago from the men's department at Macy's (possibly the shirt random men are most likely to compliment me on), light brown socks, pale blue slippers, the usual glasses, something-or-other tying my hair back, and boring underwear.
Last meal eaten: Not sure if it really counts as a meal yet, but potato chips & hummus worked well as a main course, with chocolate yogurt for dessert. I may end up eating a carrot and a pear just to balance things out a bit.
Beverage of the day: Store brand version of low sodium V-8.
What I did over the weekend: Very little, as I had insufficient energy for anything fun or remotely interesting. I did eat bunny ears and caramel eggs, though, so it wasn't a total waste.
Miles walked today: Threeish, I think.
Last book finished: Harry Bruinius, Better for all the World: The Secret History of Forced Sterilization and America's Quest for Racial Purity. The subtitle isn't terribly accurate (there aren't any real secrets about America's eugenics laws; we simply prefer not to think about them), but the book was interesting and generally well-written. The biographical details about the folks who wanted to keep folks like me from being able to breed do tend to inspire a certain sense of schadenfreude. Ahh, Life, never lose your sense of irony.
Now reading: Stephanie Coontz, The Way We Never Were, which seems to be one of those books that Everybody's Read But Me.
Last movie watched: The Petrified Forest. Intelligent dialogue, desert scenery, good acting, interesting social commentary, great melodrama, great amusement value (some of it thanks to the melodrama). This film features Humphrey Bogart in his breakout movie role, but though he is distinctly menacing as gangster Duke Mantee, it seems sometimes as if he's just daring you to laugh at his funny accent (or possibly his hairstyle). Will gladly watch again.
Now sniffling: and occasionally sneezing. Stupid allergies.
