Hummingwolf Today

Now wearing: Warm faded blue nightgown, glasses, and boring underwear. With the fall weather we're having, it's cool enough in here now for this nightgown to make sense, though I might end up sweating to death in the morning.

Songs running through my head today: The ones taking over my mind the most have been The Thompson Twins' "Doctor Doctor," Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin's "The Cloths of Heaven" (inspired by a W.B. Yeats poem), and The Vapors' "Turning Japanese." My brain's mostly been stuck in an '80s rut, sad to say.

Latest dream: One that would have turned X- NC-17-rated in about ten seconds if my brain hadn't decided to wake up before things could get that far. Silly brain. The dream also involved angels nesting in trees, which was kind of cute (think of warrior angels in man-sized nests here, not of icky little Victorian-style cherubs).

Last Balance Card reading: "For you, a tentative Sapling... a new tree that will one day grow to offer shade and fruit and the music of its rustling leaves to those who sit beneath it. But that's a long long time from now. Right now, this is a young thing, and subject to dangers: to wind, to hungry deer, to people randomly plucking it up to be mean.

"This young thing, this future good thing, needs your protection. Nurture it."

Last meal eaten: A pumpkin & cheese pupusa, corn and cheese with cumin seeds, and a single Hershey's Pumpkin & Spice Kiss (with natural and artificial flavors) for dessert. Tomorrow I definitely need to eat more fresh fruits & vegetables.

Cheese of the week: Leyden cheese with cumin seeds. Not cheap, but certainly tasty.

Today's purchases: Three pairs of jeans and two nightgowns from a thrift store.

Today's reading: Stuff on the internets. I might have read a bit of Orwell this morning, but I really don't recall anymore.

Beverage of the week: Persimmon leaf tea, a box of which caught my eye last time I was at the Korean grocery store near the neurologist's office.

Today's television: The latest episode of Bones. Hey, why isn't Peter Himmelman doing the score anymore? Oh well, it's still a likable show.

Today's big (non-political) annoyance: While it is annoying that the shoes I bought just yesterday don't fit terribly well, that was actually expected. The truly annoying thing was when I was tired, waiting for a bus, hoping to get home well before dark (or at least be out of an unfamiliar neighborhood before sunset), and then the bus arrived--and refused to let anyone on. Traffic was moving slowly enough that several people walked to the next bus stop before the bus got there, but the driver still refused to let anyone on there either. Grrrr. Fortunately, there was a bench free for me to sit on during the twenty-something-minute wait for the next bus.

Today's compliments: Two men at the bus stop complimented me on my hair. This has happened every day I've been outside for any length of time this week, since the cooler weather finally gives me a chance to get rid of the ponytail. While I'm used to the fact that some men are attracted to my ludicrously long hair, I was a bit surprised when one of the guys asked if I color my hair. Maybe the grey streaks looked like blond highlights in the light of the setting sun. Then again, maybe he only seemed less tipsy than the other man who was there.

I still want a haircut.
