Monday, January 21st, 2008 10:46 pmYesterday afternoon featured a long, long, excessively long conversation in which I actually learned a good deal I hadn't known before about people around here; so while the sitting around may have been a bad thing, the new knowledge was good.
Last night the nearly-full moon had an icy kind of Midas touch, turning everything touched by its rays into glowing frost. Today's weather was less biting than yesterday, almost gentle in comparison--though other people around here seem to disagree that temperatures near 30 really aren't that bad. In any event, sunshine and blue skies called me out-of-doors; and since a certain someone on my flist had mentioned that her beloved ackees were banned for import into the US and I knew I'd seen canned ackee for sale around here, I went wandering to various stores in an effort to find some. (Note: Certain food processors are allowed to import ackee fruits into this country because they meet FDA standards for dealing with the toxins. One local store does carry one of the brands in question--and the 12.5 ounce cans cost $16.99 each! If you're very, very curious, you can find a somewhat more reasonable price from Grace Foods--a brand name perhaps better known for the fact that Grace Foods are among several companies who sell "Cock Flavoured Soup." Ahem.)
So anyway: Today I walked about four miles. Go me! And this evening featured another conversation, not nearly as long as yesterday's, but also not nearly as interesting. If conversations have a color, this one was murky grey with scattered bits of moldy black. Oh well, at least the afternoon walk was pleasant.
