Today, I...

* didn't do any of the things I had planned to do. Not a single one. Well, not unless you count reading a few pages of a book, but I'm always reading something.

* did manage to reschedule one thing, at least.

* was in a bad mood and descending into an even worse one when I heard a rustling in a branch outside. Moving to a different window for a better view, I saw what appeared to be a female goldfinch fighting with a bunch of dead leaves. I'm guessing she was gathering material for a nest, which makes sense since the sunflowers are blooming and the thistles are downing. If any person can watch a goldfinch and remain in a bad mood, that person must not be paying much attention.

* enjoyed the cooler weather, especially when I walked in the shade.

* walked about 3.5 miles.

* heard a vaguely alarming noise coming from an electric line, then looked up to see that it was just a cicada.

* saw a freshly dead squirrel on the road with half of its head missing. That was not pleasant.

* was upset by my financial projections, which suggested that the only way not to have a negative bank balance by the end of the month is to eat very little and not at all healthfully.

* wondered how my calculations of how much I could spend this month could have been so very, very wrong before now, and angsted a bit about it all. I mean, this month has involved more expenditures than usual; but while it's been unusual in that respect, it has not been unique.

* realized that one of the things I'd been considering as part of this month's bills was something I paid last month, so breathed a deep sigh of relief.

* sorted and rolled coins. I now have $9.50 in penny rolls, and yes, that does in fact mean that I counted up 950 U.S. pennies (not counting a handful of the older wheat sheaf pennies, all discolored), which I carefully separated from the usual selection of Canadian pennies (with at least three different versions of QEII's pic) and a slightly larger coin with Liz's pic and the words "One Penny" but nothing telling me which country it's from. There are also a 1 franc piece, 3 tokens for a car wash I've never been to, and 18 gold-colored tokens of "NO CASH VALUE" from some unidentified elsewhere. Oh, and I've got a small selection of U.S. nickels, dimes, and quarters, but didn't bother counting them since they'll be spent shortly anyway.

* took so long to write this post that it's already tomorrow, a strange and somewhat disturbing future where half my friends are away celebrating the release of a children's book. I hope you're all enjoying yourselves!
