Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 11:32 pmToday started out slowly, with me not having the energy to do much of anything at first. I did try cleaning the wall tiles in the shower area, but not much was accomplished there. Even the scrubbing bubbles seemed sluggish this morning. Finally gave up and went back to bed, where I stayed till I'd decided that enough time had passed for me to try again.
Actually, I spent a really large portion of the day in that bed. Read a bit, both fiction and non, half-concentrating. Managed to get some slightly useful things done anyway. For instance, cleaned dishes that housemates had left dirty in the sink, glad to see that there were fewer of those today than yesterday. Also scrubbed a table which I never use, which the people who do use it have apparently decided looks better with some unidentified substance I would prefer not to identify smeared all over it. I think it looks better as it is now, only mildly stained and moderately beat up.
Went to the library, where I returned one book and checked out two. On balance, I'm not sure that was all that useful. But while I was out, I bought laundry detergent, facial tissue, and dark chocolate--the necessities, in other words. Enjoyed the weather, warmer than yesterday but not at all unbearable, sunny and honeysuckle-scented. Walked a total of 3.3 miles, give or take a few steps.
Today's musical selection is Sheriff by Sheriff, the band who released a single in 1980 which sped up the charts so fast it made number 1 eight years after its release. By that point, the songwriter and another Sheriff-er were in a band called Frozen Ghost doing tours for folks like Howard Jones and wondering if anyone was going to buy their new stuff aside from a small handful of weirdos like me. The other guys from Sheriff decided to take advantage of their new semi-fame, get together with former members of Heart, call themselves Alias, and release some recordings which bored me to tears, which presumably led to their great depression when they realized they'd failed to interest me which is undoubtedly why they eventually disappeared from the music scene. The Sheriff/Frozen Ghost songwriter Arnold Lanni eventually went on to write and produce for other Canadians like Our Lady Peace and hey, I just found out Arnold's birthday was May 4, so here's hoping he had a happy 51st.
I always half-wished that Sheriff would get back together and go on tour with a re-formed Police. Then again, I always wanted someone to bring Karen Carpenter back to life so the Carpenters could go on tour with Hammer and Nine Inch Nails, and wouldn't Zombie Karen and Trent Reznor make a cute couple? Maybe I should go to bed.
The only other excitement tonight was a new episode of House, M.D. I keep expecting the show's writers to annoy me so much I swear off the show for good, but they keep disappointing me by creating episodes which keep me thoroughly entertained for an hour minus commercial time. House and Wilson both tick me off, though they're still a cute couple too.
