Today I was looking forward to going to the dentist, hopeful that he would look at my mouth, tell me what was wrong, and help me get it fixed somehow, someway. So I caught my first bus, got off at the transfer point, asked other folks around me questions to make sure I was at the right stop, and waited. And the dental office called me on the cell phone to make sure I was really coming in today, and we had a little discussion confirming that I was in exactly the place where I should be to catch the bus to their office.
Guess which bus never showed up? Yeah. Called their office back 20 minutes after they'd called me to ask if anyone knew of some other way to get there, but since they were all planning to leave early today, it was quickly determined that there was no way I'd be in the office before they were ready to close up shop and go home for the weekend. After some more conversation and a great deal of hyperventilation, I agreed to another appointment on Monday morning. They said that in the meantime I should do exactly what I've been doing for the last few days, with the exception of hyperventilating since that doesn't really help dental issues much.
Calmed down slightly, walked to a Metro station, saw what appeared to be the bus I'd intended to catch with a couple of drivers walking around looking at it as if they were trying to figure out what to do with it. Then I wandered round the station, re-familiarizing myself with its layout so I would know where my bus options were on Monday morning. After that, I picked up a City Paper, got on a bus for home, and started reading. Reading was interrupted partway home when a man bumped into the (possibly high-school aged) guy sitting next to me and the guy next to me decided to get out of his seat and start a shoving match. Someone else who appeared to be high school age tried to convince everyone that this was part of a war of Blacks vs. Mexicans, but it looked to me just like a drunken stupid guy vs. a young stupid guy with their stupid friends egging them on. Fortunately half of the stupids involved in the altercation got off at the next stop and things quieted down as the less-stupid people of varying races went back to reading their newspapers or talking on their cell phones.
Since I'm supposed to be eating soft foods for now (and my mouth isn't giving me much choice in the matter anyway), I figured this was a good afternoon to pick up more yogurt along with some hummus and seafood dip. Good thing I was at the store in the early afternoon--apparently everyone was expecting a pre-snowstorm crowd later on. Other people panic about snow while I panic about teeth. In any event, life goes on.
Got home, dealt with minor emergency here, got annoyed by someone who should know better, decided I knew better than to respond while fuming, and started eating some seafood dip for lunch. Coming next: garlic hummus. Mmm... hummus.
( My horoscopes for today )
I seem to have a one-track mind today.
