Note to self

And surely all those supporters of Republicans who want to cut off all assistance to people like you will band together to make sure that you're not dying homeless and shivering on the streets this winter, right?
Right?
Everybody's waxing hyperbolic today. That's all it is--hyperbole. (And yes, that "everybody's" is hyperbole too.) The Democrats and the Republicans and the Greens and the Populists and the independents and all the rest here in the US and in other parts of the world will just need a few days to calm down and realize that the nasty behavior they've exhibited across the board in recent weeks does not help anybody. Everybody will look at their own venom they've been spewing forth about their political opponents, will repent in dust and ashes, and will reach their hands across the dividing lines to work together in harmony to make this world a better place for the good of all.
When pigs fly.
Self, it's okay to be cynical. Under the influence of a particularly divisive election, residual cynicism and bitterness are to be expected. But it's probably best not to tell all your good friends and friendly acquaintances all along the political spectrum to shut up--stop talking about how evil your liberal/conservative/authoritarian/anarchist/space alien opponents are--just shut up right now. No, you really shouldn't go around saying that to people. But it'd be nice if they would shut up now, wouldn't it?
(I resist the urge to name names. Though I cannot say "they know who they are," because honestly, many of the worst offenders are the ones least likely to understand how toxic their bile has been. It's one thing to say that someone's policies are or will be damaging to the country. It's another to say that that someone is in league with the terrorists, or that God will crush your opponents, or that your opponents are all sheep who cannot think for themselves. And it is so tempting to do the same thing myself.)
Right then. Self, there is still hope. This was just an ordinary election, not a referendum on whether or not you will be allowed to live another year. Maybe you won't die cold and alone after all.
