Update-type thingy
Tuesday, May 18th, 2004 01:42 pmRecent major activities: Walked around cicadas, walked on top of cicadas, got peed on by cicadas. It's the circle of life!
I spent nearly all of yesterday utterly convinced that it was May 21st. Why is that? Because I knew deep in my heart that the day before was May 20th. You can imagine my surprise and joy to learn that it was only May 17 after all. And (checks computer clock quickly) today's May 18 and all is right with the world! Well, at least it's the 18th anyway.
Also went grocery shopping yesterday (the 17th of May, yes) prepared to buy a little (expensive) fruit and veggies and maybe more nice, cheap dry beans, when what to my wondering eyes should appear but a big package of chicken leg quarters for 79 cents a pound! Yes, on my budget, that kind of thing gets me excited. Wore out my poor arm carrying the stuff home, but I do believe it was worth it.
One of those things that makes walking worthwhile, even in overwarm weather--honeysuckle is blooming. Honeysuckle was blooming last week too. I remember the flowers falling off and making rustling noises as the wind drove them down the streets. Now the old flowers are gone and new ones are here bringing delight to the days.
After shopping yesterday, I spent some time reading Cosmos Latinos: An Anthology of Science Fiction from Latin America and Spain. Quote from Angélica Gorodischer: "When one has the means of getting everything, one winds up giving in to personal demons. Which, I don't know if you've realized, Commander, is another way of describing happiness."
And then last night we had more thunderstorms. What could be better than an evening thunderstorm after a hot day? This one wasn't particularly violent, at least not for us. Mostly there was the cool breeze, rain, and rumble of thunder.
Today, I'm dressed in jeans coming apart at the seams and a holey T-shirt, very much an "I ain't going nowhere today" outfit. Yes, these clothes definitely call for bad grammar, even if the shirt does have a geeky Escher print.
So now I'm going to do some useful indoor things (or possibly read more SF in translation) while waiting for the next thunderstorm to arrive. May you all have a good day today.
