hummingwolf: Part of a julia fractal in colors of fire and smoke. (Fire-flavored fractal)
Woke up this morning angry and willing to bite someone's head off all before I'd spoken to anyone or turned on the radio. Although I'm pretty sure I know the reason for it, the anger isn't exactly unidirectional at the moment. This could be an excellent day for dealing with bureaucracy. Anger is, if nothing else, good at providing energy for things that need to be done (as long as they don't need to be done with much finesse). It's probably best for everyone if I avoid the housemates till this passes.

Because I'm the sort of person who likes astrology even though I don't believe in it, just had to check my transits for the day over on astro.com. They provide free access to multiple transits on Thursdays, so here they are.

"Above petty irritations" and "Not easily angered." Good thing they said that last transit was one with a "weak, transient effect." Okay, I think I'll not bother looking at the long-term influences right now. Heh. Maybe I just need more chocolate before I face the world.

The anger which began the day mellowed into a quieter sort of energy by the time I managed to talk to any agents of Hell bureaucracy. It's probably just as well--the caseworker who seems closest to being in charge of anything did sound terribly stressed. She complained that they're switching over to a new system in January, everybody's spending all their time in training, and nothing is getting done. She may have expected sympathy from me. She didn't get it. I am glad, however, that anger didn't impel me to add any unnecessary rudeness to my necessary pestering of the woman. Don't want her to hate me; just want her to get sufficiently tired of hearing from me that she'll do anything in her power to get everything satisfactorily settled.

During my brief walk tonight, wet spots on the pavement looked like they were smoking under the streetlights. Maybe if I walked more often on cold nights I'd be used to it, but this time I kept dodging puddles instinctively as if they were on fire.

Launchcast introduced a new version of their player yesterday. Since the new version lists genres for each song played, I decided to sign into my alternate Yahoo account and listen to my station for a while, keeping track of all genres listed. Much to my surprise, the playlist yesterday and today was not entirely stuck in Adult Alternative mode. Suddenly I don't feel quite so old after all, at least not until I see what did get played and how many of the songs are by artists I've been listening to for the last twenty years.

Most songs were placed by the Launch team into multiple genres. If anyone's curious, out of 38 songs played, the following genres were represented:

Adult Alternative: 7 songs
African: 1
Ambient: 2
Celtic: 2
Classic Rock: 3
Contemporary Christian: 1
Disco: 1
Electronica: 7
Folk: 1
Funk: 1
Fusion: 1
Gothic Rock: 2
Hard Rock: 5
Heavy Metal: 2
Hip-Hop/Soul: 1
House and Garage: 1
Indie Rock: 1
Industrial Rock: 4
Mainstream Pop: 4
Mainstream Rap: 1
Mainstream Rock: 6
Modern Folk: 10
Modern R&B: 1
Modern Rock: 15
New Age: 3
New Wave: 2
Progressive Rock: 4
Psychedelic Rock: 1
Rock: 2
Soft Pop: 3
Techno: 5
World: 1

I think I need to get back in the habit of listening to lots & lots of world music and the subgenres thereof--this list is too mainstream. Oh! My station's now playing some ridiculously long Indian piece. This is a good start.
