Scattered

So here I'm trying to prepare for my various parts to coalesce, and I'm feeling hopelessly scattered. Which is silly, 'cos a week or so ago I was feeling equally scattered and quite hopeful about it.

You know how sometimes when you've been too sleepless for too long, your brain tries to make up for it by filling all your sleep with dreams which you never seem to quite wake up from? I'm at that point now, with a million things to do in the waking world yet shadowed by the feeling that I need to do some research to help Buffy and Xander fight this season's Big Bad and I don't even know who the Big Bad is. Terribly frustrating.

It would help if I had more Ritalin and less caffeine. Unfortunately, while a departing housemate could give me several lovely boxes full of tea, nobody can just give me methylphenidate. At least, they can't do so legally. Need money, stat.

So I want to make some phone calls in pursuance of the effort to get some money, and all I can think is that I need to find out where in the magic shop Giles has hidden the books we need...

Well, that's not all I can think. I can also think about that commercial I heard earlier this afternoon where a Christian bookstore advertised a Patriot Day sale. Granted that the books they advertised were genuinely related to the terrorist attacks and aftermath, the voice of the spokeswoman in the ad seemed perversely chipper and made me wish I could reach through the radio and rip out her perky little vocal cords. I had hoped it would be at least five years before September 11 got transformed into a shopping holiday.

Cocoa buying frenzy to hit chocolate lovers. In the meantime, Indians try to keep a chocolate idol from melting before they have the chance to toss it into the sea.

I tell you, it's a crazy world out there.
