Friday Memes

I don't think I've ever done either of these before. First time for everything!

The Friday Five

1. What was the last TV show you watched?
The latest episode of Angel on Wednesday night. Also watched a bit of the 6 o'clock news yesterday, not enough to count really.

2. What was the last thing you complained about and what was the problem?
Bureaucracy. Oh, how I hate having to jump through hoops.

3. Who was the last person you complimented and what did you say?
I told [livejournal.com profile] penguinboi that he's a hottie, which is hardly news but sometimes needs to be said.

4. What was the last thing you threw away?
A piece of paper with the date of the January lawyer appointment scrawled on it.

5. What was the last website (besides this one) that you visited?
Launchcast and LiveJournal simultaneously. Now I'm about to go to look at today's other big meme, The Weekly Wrap-up.

Oh, it's all about work. Nice, painful topic. Ah well, here goes:

1. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A mad scientist! I wanted to cure diseases and invent new ways for people to fly and travel instantaneously and make modifications to human beings so we could all be better and stronger and more intelligent and well-coordinated (especially me).

Later, when I figured out that I probably would never get to be a mad scientist, I wanted to be a writer instead.

2. When did you get your first job? What was it?
Ah, pain. Never had a real, paying job in my life, thanks to (A) me focusing on school when I was younger and (B) my body eventually deciding not to do what I want it to. Did have an occasional job a few years ago going to an elderly man's house while his wife went to play bridge, my purpose being to make sure that he didn't have a heart attack or stroke while alone. Also was an unpaid intern at a computer training school. My boss wanted them to hire me as a real employee, but her boss wasn't willing to pay the money.

3. What is your job now? Do you like it? Why or why not?
Dealing with bureaucrats in order to get basic necessities, apparently. Can't say that I much like it, given my hatred of jumping through hoops.

4. What would be the worst job for you to have? Why?
One where I have to stand for more than 15 or 20 minutes without a chance to lie down, thanks to the blood pressure and blacking out problem. Personality-wise, I would not do well in a job requiring much public speaking. I am not an extrovert.

5. What would be your ideal job if you could chose it? Why?
Lately I've been thinking it would be fun to be able to play with computer graphics all day and get paid for it. I've always loved drawing and calligraphy, loved playing with computers for as long as I can remember, and have enjoyed doing things with POV-Ray ever since I first downloaded it onto my old IBM 486. If I had a modern computer with a good connection to a mouse, I could be dangerous.
