A day spent walking through, over, around piles of slush and ice, trying not to get hit by cars and trucks sharing (not generously) the same road; talking with a departing housemate (she's given up on getting medical benefits from our county, going to try her luck in another one), a new housemate (seems like a friendly geek so far), and remaining housemates; trying to get something done with my own benefits, not getting much of anywhere. Finally, a steaming shower, hot water washing away the mud, the blood, the pain. Heavenly.

Perhaps you need to sew some fluorescent/reflective strips on your clothing! On the other hand, sometimes it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Wouldn't have made any difference. I'm pretty sure they were having no trouble seeing me; they just didn't want to share the road with any pedestrians, not caring that we didn't want to share the road with the likes of them either. I gladly would've walked on the sidewalks if only I'd been able to get to them.
