Note to self: Now that you know what it feels like to be deficient in each of the four electrolytes, please try to avoid such deficiencies in the future. Altered states of consciousness are less fun when they come with bad headaches.

Note to the universe in general: Kevin Gilbert should have become a superstar before he died, dammit. At the very least, he should have had a hit single of his own that wasn't sung by Sheryl Crow.

Note to the curious: Of course none of the caseworkers called me back. Don't be silly. Have to harangue 'em tomorrow... or whenever enough potassium gets to my brain cells for them to work decently again.

i hope haranguing them works tomorrow! as for kevin gilbert, i'm not familiar with his music. (gilbert was my maiden name, btw.)

If you're interested, the official KG site is at http://www.kevingilbert.com
They've got a selection of mp3s in their "Sound Bytes" section, though honestly (with my slow connection speeds & tiny hard drive)I haven't heard all of them and am not sure which to recommend. All I've really got is his album from the mid-90s called Thud and a bonus CD of Kashmir (includes a cover of the Led Zeppelin song), plus a CD from his old duo Toy Matinee.

Kevin's greatest commercial success came from his writing & playing on Sheryl Crow's first CD, the one with "All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun." He's one of those artists with a rabid cult following that isn't likely to get any bigger 'cos he was stupid enough to die too young.

oh, great, i'll do some browsing later on. i like that sheryl crow song. Thud is a great name for an album! he must have had some wit to him. thanks!

Oh, some of his lyrics are very clever. But the first of his solo songs I ever heard was the melancholy "Tea for One," which was just one of those songs that made me run to turn up the radio and stand still, doing nothing but listening until the song was over. I think "Tea for One" is one of the songs they have on the official site, though I'm not sure if they have the Thud version or some other recording. In any case, I can recommend downloading that one even if I don't know most of the other songs in the "Sound Bytes" section.

Then again, I have weird tastes in music, so you may have a different reaction. :-)

winmx just gave it to me. yes, it has a wonderfully wistful sound, and i like his voice. this is the "original" version, so said the file. i will go look at the site, to see if it says how he died. (he reminds me of someone. seals & crofts? someone from the 70's...)
