In other news

Today on my favorite mailing list some of us talked about news stories like the one about the woman getting arrested for having too many sex toys and the one about the administration's "stealth war on condoms". This prompted me to wonder if the Information Awareness Office (you gotta love their logo) and their plans for Total Information Awareness, collecting and tying together all the info on all the computers, isn't really just an excuse for government officials to download lots and lots of porn. (The line "This is a WAR on TERRAH and we need to know everything there is to know about the terrahrists... whoa, look at the hooters on that one!" wasn't typed by me--that was my evil twin.)

Of course I'm wondering how the flesh-eating squirrels and the revelation that Mickey Mouse is 700 years old can be tied into this, which probably just goes to show how desperately I need medication.

that's some fun mailing list! i wonder when one crosses the line from an ok number of sex toys into the too-many category. good grief. as for that logo, when jeff showed it to me the other day, i thought it was a parody. wish it were!

Well, with the number of sex toys she had, she was presumed to be a dealer (and of course people who sell sex toys must be stopped, right?). I think the penalty for having all those sex toys in her car in Texas is higher than the penalty she'd get for DUI.

That logo is one of those where you have to keep double-checking that the site you're looking at is really an official government-related site and not some hoax. A friend commented, "Why don't they just come out and name it the Illuminati Information Awareness Office?"

yeah, exactly. it's stunning to me that they can put this out there -- do they not understand how scary it is? oh well. welcome to newthought. or something like that.

Heh. If I get medication, you might end up seeing more posts like this. Or you might see some posts where I actually talk about a paying job rather than talking about trying to get a job. Either way, it'd be a nice change of pace.

I'd previously seen that logo as a userpic and assumed it was a parody. Urg....

While the previous administration would've done the same things Dubya & Friends are doing if they could've gotten away with it, I'm convinced that Slick Willie would have had better sense than to let the IAO use that logo.

medication . . .

::taking a bow::

Thank you, thank you.

The IAO logo could be worse--it could have included that 700-year-old Mickey Mouse. That'd scare me a whole lot.

You bow so nicely!

One of my favorite things to do is acknowleging genius.

Now what is the 700-year-old Mickey Mouse????

The 700-year-old Mickey Mouse was in one of the articles linked in my original post. The article at http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/11/15/1037080897364.html
talks about a fresco found in an old Austrian church and shows a picture of something that looks a little like Mickey. Of course, it could also be a weasel--but the 700-year-old Mickey Mouse idea appeals to me more. :-)
