Quick note

After the recent discussion of optimism here and a new post on [livejournal.com profile] conscience's journal mentioning the old glass half-empty/half-full question, I just had to note that my father the nuclear physicist always taught me that the glass was all full--of molecules. The fact that you can't see anything doesn't mean there's nothing there.

(Of course other physicists would point out that molecules are almost entirely empty space, so even the most solid objects are barely there at all. And still other physicists would tell you that there is no such thing as empty space because all of space contains potential particles. But I need to go now and I tell you I am not getting into a philosophical/quantum-mechanical discussion this morning.)

Was just busy uploading a new pic and deciding to cut a portion of my rather long entry, and came across yours before I shut the comp down...

I LOVE that "full of potential" thing!!

Thats just it!
As type A as i have been told i am (before the little quiz), and what I believe I am, I LIVE by the fact that there IS POTENTIAL! MAybe thats what keeps the business going...the POTENTIAL for greatness. You cant know the potential, if you dont strive for it, and striving for it, you must Do, do, do...doo-be-dooby-do! :)

Now, the quantum physics thing...*ugh* I barely scraped by in chemistry and chemicals and all that...gimme a tangible body and some hemostats and clamps, and you can bet I can turn an "A", or at least LOOK good trying for it :) Quantum physics...my lord, woman! Its not even NOON yet! *grin*

Sorry about the quantum physics thing--but at least I didn't get into a long discussion about it in the morning! Things could've been much worse, believe me. :-)

ha! I can stand to learn a thing or two in the morning...i just may have to read it a few time to compute *grin*

You've given me some new responses to that glass question now.

Thanks. :)

You're welcome. :-)

heehee!! i love it!!! "all full" fantastic!! LOL

(and, um, how scary is it that i'm up for quantum physics life analogies and ruminations at any hour of the day?? ;) )

that's so cool about your dad, he must've had such a neat perspective on life! (i mean, cmon, the germ poem and the full glass?!!! fabulous!!! :) :) :) )

I was actually up for a good discussion this morning, I just didn't have time because I had an appointment... which ended up getting postponed 'til Thursday anyway. ::sigh::

Yeah, most of my weirdness can be blamed on Dad. (Not that my mother wasn't strange herself, but she was much better at hiding it.)

Parents are that way. My dad taught me to eat palmetto in case I ever had to survive in the floridian woods on my own...but god forbid if EVER i went past the invisible line in our 1.5 acre yard, to the small wooded section to do so without supervision (until i was 16 i couldnt check the mail by myself either, since that consisted of going into the front yard...alone..LoL!) I also wasnt supossed to get married til i was 35...i *still* dont think that was a joke! ha!

*perks up*

*very intrigued*

(but not quite willing to brave saw palmetto cuts on my tongue. *eep*)
