"Teevy: A Rotten Imitation of a Greek Myth"

Was looking for something else just now, and found this story I wrote for a school assignment in 7th grade. I don't think it's at all bad for a 12-year-old; in fact, in spite of the subtitle, it strikes me as rather better than any story I've completed in the last decade. See what you think...

Due: May 27, 1982

Teevy
A Rotten Imitation of a Greek Myth

Many years ago, even before Echo fell in love with Narcissus, a
nymph named Teevy fell in love with Radio, son of Zeus.

Radio, as much as he loved Teevy, was supposed to marry a mortal
woman named Sandira.

Teevy was angry about this, because Sandira was reputed to be a
witch, and Teevy really did want to marry Radio.

No matter what Teevy did, she could not hinder the marriage of
Radio and Sandira. Teevy implored Zeus to cancel this union,
but Zeus was concentrating on whether to please Hera or please
himself and he didn't like to be disturbed. Zeus confined Teevy
to a wooden box, and assured that, in the unlikely event of
Teevy becoming a mother, her children would be stuck in some
sort of box or another as well.

Now, Teevy was no imbecile. She made good use of her time,
trying to show Radio her love for him. She provided
entertainment for anyone who would watch, and, if you happened
to fiddle with the knobs on her box a certain way, you might be
able to hear what Radio was saying, also.

Later on, she asked Chloris to lend her some colors from her
flowers. Chloris gave her some red, blue, and green pollen
which Teevy sprinkled over the screen in her box. She arranged
them so they could not be seen unless someone happened to
sprinkle water on the screen, but when viewed collectively, they
made Teevy's creations seem almost like real life.

Teevy found out that Sandira had died, so she married Radio.
Although she was married to his son, Zeus still kept Teevy
confined in her box. All of Radio and Teevy's children look
pretty much like Teevy does, because all of what are now the
radios are children of Radio and Sandira.

Some of Radio and Teevy's children have colors from Chloris, but
many angered Chloris and have only gray. Their children are
called Televisions, or TV's, in honor of their mother.

In many homes, TV's are awake constantly, chattering all sorts
of nonsense to all sorts of children--from 3 to 103 years of
age. Yet, it is often healthier people who get out and
exercise, while their TV's sit at home asleep--because TV's can
often be a bad influence on mortals. TV's can be useful in
telling you the news and weather at 11 p.m., but they often
don't care if they tell a lie about either one. Many like to
tell you it will rain tomorrow so you can cancel your
picnic--and instead the sun shines brightly. Even more often,
they will do this in reverse. TV's are nice friends to have, anyway.
