I know better than to let what other people think affect my emotional state so much. I really do know better.

But I admit that when my recent health-related downhill slide is considered unimportant while the brother's car-related problems are apparently reason for a national day of mourning, it upsets me. Doesn't upset me as much as the health problems, but it still upsets me.

People are frustrating. So's everything else in life, come to think of it, if you expect it to behave the way you think it should.
