The Odd Mix Survey

From [livejournal.com profile] anoisblue.

1. How tall are you?
At the last doctor visit, they said I'm 5 feet, 4 and three-quarters inches--1/4 inch taller than last time, so I'm a bit skeptical.

2. If you could own one thing that hasn't been invented yet, what would it be?
A medical tricorder.

3. One year in prison for something you didn't do or say you did it to get a year's probation?
Depends on the crime I'm being accused of, the likelihood that I'll get decent medical care in prison, how much exercise I'm permitted to get. Probably probation as I don't deal well with being cooped up.

4. Do you believe human beings are instinctually monogamous? Why?
Sure, for about 5 minutes at a time. Any relationship longer than that requires conscious effort.

5. Describe the immediate area surrounding your computer.
On the floor beside this computer is an old 486 and a box full of papers I need to file. The desk on which the keyboard and monitor reside is a scratched old dresser-desk painted an ugly green (much of the paint is chipped off) and filled with socks, underwear, papers, nails, and other oddments. On top of the desk is an AM/FM/shortwave clock radio; two boxes of diskettes; a wooden bowl with pens, stamps, and large ball bearings; a mousepad based on a Thomas Kincade painting with a standard Microsoft mouse on top; two phone books raising the monitor up to a decent level; and three screws.

6. You're having a dinner party with 6 well-known, currently living people. Who do you invite?
I pay little attention to celebrities, so I'd probably stick with writers. Heh--just thought of Joss Whedon, Harlan Ellison, and Vaclav Havel together. That'd be interesting. Who else is alive?

7. Name an article of clothing or an accessory that you don't have but would like to own.
There was a batik top in shades of brown and gold I had for almost a decade before it wore out. It was one of the few pieces of clothing I've ever bought that really looked good on me and I want another.

8. Name 3 things you'd like to do in this lifetime but haven't yet.
1. Get a real, paying job.
2. Have a genuine romance.
3. Go skydiving.

9. If you could return to life (after death) as an adult, retaining the knowledge you gained in this lifetime, and you could choose a different local and era, where and when would that be?
I think I'd choose to go forward in time. I want to know what happens next.

10. Who cooked the best breakfast you ever had? What was it?
While my father made wonderful pancakes and my mother was famous for her waffles, the breakfasts I remember best tend to be breakfast buffets at hotels where we all simply enjoyed the time together without worrying whether or not we'd burned something.

continued...
11. Where do you go to meditate and think?
Physically it hardly matters, as long as it's not too uncomfortable.

12. Share a lesson you've learned.
It's better to ask too many questions than to make too many assumptions.

13. What does your favorite pair of shoes look like?
I don't much care as long as they don't hurt my feet.

14. If you could commit one crime - one free crime, no consequences - what would it be?
I'm not sure I could.

15. Do you believe in heaven? Even if you don't, if you could design it, what would it look like?
Yes. I imagine it as a place where everyone does what they enjoy because that is what they were created to do. All are appreciated for their unique contribution to the cosmos, nobody looked down upon for being different.

16. Tell me about someone I probably don't know about.
I can't narrow this down to one person!

17. What are the things you like best about your life RIGHT NOW?
Though I live in an urban area, I'm surrounded by trees.

18. What would you like to be doing with your life 5 years from now?
Living it.

19. Go for a mental walk and pick up 5 imaginary objects. What did you get?
1. A smooth piece of tiger's eye that fits perfectly in the palm of my hand.
2. A pink-and-white seashell, about an inch and a half wide, with a hole in it where a chain could go.
3. Something that looks at first like a button made of mother-of-pearl, but when you look closer you discover that one side looks like a reptilian eye--and it's alive.
4. A tiny sparrow made of glass.
5. A perfect leaf.

20. If I ask you to build something, what's the first thing that came to your mind?
Heh. A Lego contraption with lots of gears and wheels spinning round.

Cool! I want one too! :)

I like it that you built Legos with spinning things. My house has been a veritable Lego graveyard for years & years. Stepping on one of those babies in the night, in the dark, is always cause for screaming, hopping around, and getting nifty bruises. [g]

Hot as the hinges, ain't it?

I was surprised when I picked up that imaginary button and realized it was looking back at me, lemme tell ya. Not sure how to take care of such a thing, though--I didn't see a mouth or other opening for food, just the eye. Perhaps it has some form of photosynthesis keeping it alive?

About the building: I Love Lego. No further comment necessary. :-)

Have you gotten one of those lovely thunderstorms today? You're not far from me, so you should have... isn't it wonderful? Even if thunder & lightning weren't so darn cool in themselves, I'd have to approve of anything capable of dropping the temperature 20 degrees.

oh yeah, it cooled off quick. I love it when that happens! :)

I wish my imagination stretched like that, to actually see the periwinkle-button thingy look back. That impresses me.

Thanks for doing the survey! This was great. I especially liked your 5 imaginary items. I actually thought of a piece of tiger's eye, too, and then decided against it. I'm not sure why. I think it's gorgeous.

I've got a smooth piece of tiger's eye sitting on a file cabinet, actually (bought at some science-related store's going out of business sale). The shell I described is also similar to one I found on a beach as a child.

Thanks for the survey! It was fun.
