Still here

Not up to saying much at the moment due to extreme tiredness and brainfog. I trace these problems to two major causes:

1. Walking through the obstacle course that was created when the Snowpocalypse and Snoverkill dumped more snow on the region than people know how to deal with is exhausting. Even on days when I could walk four miles on dry sidewalks, I am not so good at walking two miles if those two miles involve uneven ice, knee-high slush, and shoulder-high snowbanks.

2. Lyrica is not my friend. It actually does relieve some of the fibromyalgia pain and I can understand why it might be appealing as a drug of abuse, but I'm sleepy and even more uncoordinated than usual and I'd rather be in pain than be unable to concentrate. Highs are overrated. (Speaking of controlled substances, I'm thinking of asking one of the doctors to prescribe me some Ritalin again since that did help me to think more clearly even if some old studies suggested it was related to increased risk of seizures.)

Might feel up to posting more tomorrow. That'd be nice.

*hugs* snow is evil :( and it doens't sounds like lyrica's much fun at all...

You know, I do read your lj even if I've not commented much of late but I've not really been keeping track of details, so I'm unsure if you've ever tried a gluten free diet (you may be GlutenFreeDeity for all I can remember) but [livejournal.com profile] forest has been doing gluten-free for the past 3 or 4 months and its definitely helping, not so sure its doing that much for the aches but he's been much more alert and able to deal with things, and much less fibro-fog which has got to be a good thing.

[Edit: Snow isn't evil. Snow is lovely, even as it's melting. People who pile huge snowbanks in the middle of walkways are evil. Grrr! And Lyrica's fun for some people--I have heard good things about it from both folks with fibro & folks with epilepsy. But the two side effects most likely to cause people to drop out of studies of the drug are two of the side effects I've got, and I think it's responsible for my exceptionally dry mouth today as well. Not a drug I want to be taking long-term.]

I haven't mentioned it here, but I have been trying to eat gluten-free for a little while (with a brief break when mouth pain became too much, as some of my favorite soft foods contain a bit of wheat). As far as I can tell, it doesn't help with alertness, but I've heard about enough other people doing well on it that I plan to try it a while longer. More US food manufacturers are making a big deal of having gluten-free products now; so even if I'm not up to making something from scratch, food isn't quite impossible to find.

Aw. Feel better soon! Hopefully without increased risk of seizures.

Thank you! One way or another, I want my brain back. Preferably intact.

Its pretty to look at but in the UK we usually get a day of prettiness then just brown sludge and slush which freezes and becomes a deathtrap. Huge snowbank piles don't sound much better!

Ah, no, side-effects not fun...

Yeah, for once tis good that companies are getting on the gluten-free bandwagon, one of mum's friends was battling with Coeliac a decade ago and there was hardly anything in the shops, now there's whole *sections* of food, though other than bread its reasonably easy to find non-gluten things if you're happy to live on rice and fish and sweet potatoes like wot Forest does. And pre-made stuff is a godsend for sure.
