Update

First of all: Many thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday! Your good wishes and kind words are very much appreciated, and did much to bring joy to my week.

Last Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] stardansr and [livejournal.com profile] hasufin picked me up in the morning so a group of us could go to The Maryland Renaissance Festival. It was a beautiful day for a faire, with sunshine and fluffy clouds and highs somewhere in the 70s. It was fun wandering around looking at guests and performers in fabulous costumes and watching [livejournal.com profile] hasufin go into stalls where he would talk to the vendors and swing pointy objects around.

At one point, while most of the others of our group were standing in line for an ATM (anachronistic much?), I was delighted to see Maggie Sansone--hammered dulcimer player and owner of this independent music label--come and set up her things in the path nearby. She was in full street-performer mode, even entertaining children and adults with RoverDance, some puppy puppets that danced along with the music. Most of what Maggie plays are Celtic or early European tunes, though she also has a fondness for Persian-style improvisation (video evidence). She was also happy to take a request when a mother asked if she could play some children's song for her child, and she was positively bouncy when the woman gave her a tip afterward. "A new way to make some money! Does anyone else have any requests? Don't say 'Stairway to Heaven'"--at which point Maggie proceeded to play a bit of "Stairway to Heaven." I bought three of her CDs while there, two holiday-related ones as well as Mystic Dance (the one I've been listening to the most this week).

After leaving the festival before the evening rush, most of the group went out for milkshakes on the way home. All in all, it was a fun day.

I have decided that for this year, Sunday, October 5 was officially my birthday. For one thing, the silly online astrology sites say that my actual Solar Return took place while we were all at the festival. For another thing, the rest of my week wasn't nearly as festive.

Basically, while at RenFest, I apparently caught the Raging Ick, which has taken the form of an upper respiratory infection. I haven't been coughing or sneezing very much, but my ears hurt, throat hurts, breathing is a wee bit gurgly when I lie down to sleep, and on some days I've been absurdly tired. Yesterday I missed a party I'd been hoping to go to; but while the spirit was willing, the flesh was pathetic. On the plus side, [livejournal.com profile] hasufin dropped off some homemade soup at the front door, and [livejournal.com profile] animangel has fresh-picked apples. Life could be much worse.

sounds like you had a lovely day, my dear.
I sure do love a good Renaissance Fest -- it's been absolute decades since I've been to one.

It was lovely! It may not have been my calendar birthday that day, but it was an excellent way to celebrate all the same!

Did you dress up for the Ren Faire?

Homemade soup and fresh-picked apples are excellent foods for any occasion. Get better soon. ::hugs::

No, I don't have any good period clothes. I do enjoy looking at other people's garb, but all the nice stuff is so expensive!

Thank you!
