As I was walking down a stretch of road I've walked on a thousand times (more or less), a vaguely scruffy-looking, bespectacled man of indeterminate age took some mail out of a box and walked into a house which had clearly been sitting there for many years and which I had never seen before. I stopped and stood looking at the house for a while in surprise. Briefly I wondered if this scene had been written by Neil Gaiman or Charles Williams or some other author whose works I've enjoyed, but then I figured that as long as I was too tired to be a major character it didn't matter much anyway. I walked on.
Maybe in a later chapter I get something more than a walk-on part.

I've had that same sort of feeling before. I'll get that feeling and imagine all sorts of possibilities--sometimes Gaiman or Gaiman-like ideas will be involved. I don't think it's anything special about the house, usually. I think it is your imagination. That sounds bad left as it is. I'm not saying 'it's all in your head'. What I'm saying is you're imagination is rich and full and you can make beautiful, interesting mountains out of molehills.

Because I was much too tired to be a main character yesterday. A major player surely would have spent some time trying to figure out the mystery of the house, or at least talking to the guy who went inside it. Me, I needed a break from dealing with people.

No, definitely nothing special about the house, other than the fact that it was the only one I couldn't remember having seen before on this street I've been on so many times. :-)
I think it is your imagination.
"Come with me
And you'll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you'll see
Into your imagination
"We'll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we'll see
Will defy
Explanation
"If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanna change the world?
There's nothing
To it
"There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You'll be free
If you truly wish to be..."
Ahem. Slight attack of Willie Wonka lyrics there. It's all right now; move along, folks.

By which I mean the Gene Wilder version. I've never seen the one with Johnny Depp in it at all. Woe!
Willie Wonka is cool.
