Why is it that starting out with a new computer isn't allowed to be easy? Sheesh, you think everything's going along just great, then it tells you there's some sort of software problem or hardware problem and suddenly you find myself in Safe Mode wondering what the heck is going on. So you fiddle around with things a little, not really knowing what you're doing but thinking that you certainly should be doing something, and you restart the computer in the hopes that everything will be all sorted out. But you find yourself having problems again, and the computer tells you it has to shut down because things just aren't working out between you. You try talking to it, cajoling it into giving you some semi-useful hint as to what's going on, and still you get... not the silent treatment, exactly, but a decided lack of good information. And then, for no apparent reason, your machine partner decides to talk to you normally again, acting as if nothing was ever wrong, while you sit there still wondering what just happened and if it's likely to happen again.

It's been a long time since I got a new computer. I'd forgotten how much I hate this part.

On the plus side, now that I have a computer and mouse talking to each other (I'd been having mouse problems on the old computer for years), I can sit around playing Collapse--which is precisely what I did yesterday in lieu of doing anything remotely constructive. High score so far: 850,842. (I blame [livejournal.com profile] darth_spacey.)

In other news, I need chocolate.

Oh, I love Tetris! I've never had Tetris on my own computer, though--I've only played it on other people's computers or in arcades back in college. Did find a Tetris CD in a cereal box(!) once, but I have no idea where the CD went. If I find that CD, there's definitely gonna be a new game going on this computer.

I'm fond of Tetris on the gameboy. I also have it on my computer. I get the original Tetris song in my head all the time! And if I get too obsessed with it, I will see the little falling blocks whenever I close my eyes! That's when you've been Tetrisized!

You mean it isn't normal to have little falling blocks in your head? Hmmm... maybe my doctor was right and I really do need to get that rattling in my brain checked out...

nah, all you have to do is start playing Tetris all the time. Then you'll be perfectly normal...

Normal? Butbutbut--why on Earth would anybody want to be normal of all things? ;-)
