Sometimes I repeat myself

Sometimes I repeat myself. Wait, didn't I say that already? Well, it's because sometimes I repeat myself. With few if any exceptions, we all have our pet topics or phrases or bits of babble that we find ourselves spouting off every once in a while, perhaps making us wonder if we've beaten that conversational horse one too many times or if we lucked out and found ourselves an audience who forgot about the last time we said the same basic thing.

Anyway, today I've said things that I've said before and will surely say again, but I can't remember if I've ever said them in my journal. So I figure, for the sake of completeness, I may as well copy & paste a couple of passages here.

From a comment in someone else's LJ:
Nice guys do not finish last. Nice guys and jerks are running in different races with vastly different goals. If you find yourself yearning for what the jerks are getting, maybe you've let yourself lose sight of what a nice guy really needs in life.

And an e-mail to my favorite list:
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm on to you and your devious lies! Sex is a myth invented by popular people to give us unpopular people one more thing to be sad about missing. But you popular people don't have sex! When you say you're having sex, all you're really doing is going off somewhere to play Yahtzee! Well I have news for you--I can play Yahtzee all by myself! On my home computer! Current high score is 609! And I just realized what number that is if you take out the zero!

Oh dear. I think somebody spiked my tea.

I'm not sure I want to know what it says about me that of all the various things I've babbled today, these are the ones I remember having said multiple times before.

i like that about what a nice guy really needs. good observation. repeating a good observation from time to time isn't beating a dead horse. it's doling out your pearls of wisdom. (no, i'm not hinting anything about swine!)

Alas

I can confirm the sex thing exists, and it's even more aggravating to think about when you're not getting it *any more*.

Uh oh. Do me a favor and don't blab that one about sex and Yahtzee too much (although for us it's Scrabble; I don't even know how to play Yahtzee). Then again, I'm not popular. I'm married, which is something else altogether.

Oh sure, you say that now--but I know you're just doing your best to perpetuate a myth. Don't try to trick me, buster. I wasn't born yesterday!

Heh. Trivial Pursuit is oddly appropriate in this context, at least in some cases.

Well, I can quote me even when nobody else does!

Is it very sad to quote yourself?

It's true... do I look like a Yahtzee fan?

You know, it always pissed me off when a guy whines about not getting the gorgeous chicks and says "Why am I not good enough for her?" when they treat not-so-gorgeous women the same way...and that's when they usually also say "all women seem to want jerks".
I don't want a jerk, I want a nice guy...but hello, how many guys invite me out for dates? None!
And besides, why would I want a guy who was complaining about not getting a gorgeous girl, in front of me...

Yeah, a lot of the time guys who complain "nice guys don't win" are not nice guys at all. The man I was talking to is a friend of mine, though, so I didn't feel the need to point that out to him.
