Mid-November: Holiday Chocolate Review

Think of those milk chocolate-covered cherries, chocolate mostly filled with liquid, a candy that tastes somewhat artificial even though you could swear that that must be a real piece of fruit in the center. M&M's have a Cherry Cordial candy that does an excellent job of replicating that flavor, so you can now enjoy it covered with a red candy shell and without anything dribbling down your chin. I can't really say that these particular M&M's candies are good--but I get a craving for the chocolate-covered cherries about once every three years, this is the year, and these candies satisfy that craving.

(A little research tells me that Cherry Cordial M&Ms have been released into the wilds before this year, but unless I'm repressing some previous encounter, this is the first time I've tried them.)

Cherry Cordials are, IMHO, one of the grossest mass market candies =)

Yeah, Palmer may or may not be real chocolate, but sometimes (usually around Halloween for me) it satisfies those sugar cravings. A little bag of peanut butter eyeballs can be fun!

Hee! I don't hate them, obviously, but I do wonder how they've managed to stay around for so long when there are better candies out there.

My father liked cherry cordials too. I have to admit that I don't really understand the appeal, even though I do eat them once every few years!

Thank you, Vicki. I hope you have a good day too. :-)

My aunt had to have a box of the cherry cordials every year, and I'd often get to have one or two.

After that, the dark chocolate ones became sort of a happy-memory thing for me, and I'll sometimes grab them. On sale, of course. LOL

But they are still around for the same reason Circus Peanuts are.

Well, dark chocolate makes anything better. So do happy memories.

A little research tells me that Circus Peanuts are supposedly banana flavored. I had no idea. Seriously, who thinks bananas taste like that?? Anyway, I have no clear memories related to Circus Peanuts, but your theory sounds about right.

And some people actually like Circus Peanuts, though those people seem to realize that they're weird.

Driving across the country with my grandmother every summer, she would pretty much keep herself going with black coffee and circus peanuts. It was my job to handle the thermos and tupperware (http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:aSC8iO_conGZBM:http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y233/luckyles/SSA52242.jpg&t=1) container (full!) of them. I'm pretty sure back then they were still the "orange" flavored ones. (Btw... what's up with the banana ones still being coloured orange?)

In moments of desperation, I was known to wash a couple down with black coffee myself, but that was for keep-alert emergencies and not enjoyment. Well, I enjoyed the coffee, once it washed that weirdness out of my mouth.

(Grandma usually stocked up on Canada Mints for me when she picked up her circus peanuts. They were my personal odd candy addiction.)

I don't really like anything cherry flavoured or cherry-related, but... My aunt (sadly no longer with us)introduced me to the chocolate-covered cherries, and I was hooked!

Every so often, I buy half a dozen from DECENT chocolate shops, and oh, boy, they're gorgeous! And it always makes me laugh when the shop assistant says, with all earnestness, "Watch out for the stone in the middle. Be careful not to bite too hard."

Ah, health and safety gone mad...
