This week's Friday Five

1. How do you like your coffee?

Chocolate-covered espresso beans! I don't actually drink coffee unless I have a migraine and there is no available tea.

2. How do you like your tea?

Usually hot without any additives. Sometimes, though, I love a good masala chai, with all the sugar and the spices and the milk (or coconut milk).

3. What's your favorite late night beverage?

Depends on how I'm feeling. If I've got a migraine, I can drink strong black tea all day and still pass out at bedtime. Usually, though, I try to keep caffeine levels light at night, so I'll stick with herbal tea (maybe something orange-flavored), cocoa, or relatively low-caffeine twig tea. In warmer weather, I often prefer fruit juice or plain water.

4. If you could only drink one thing for the next week, what would it be?

This week it's tea, either black or oolong. Another week, it could be different.

5. If you were on vacation, what would be the first thing you'd drink to celebrate?

That depends: where is this vacation, and do they have any special drinks there?

What do you love about Summer?

Fresh summer fruit! Cherry tomatoes, blackberries, apricots, blueberries, whatever else the friendly farmers have on hand at the farmers market. (I am, sadly, all out of blackberries at the moment. This situation distresses me so much I may end up going to the supermarket to remedy it. The horror!)

I also love summer thunderstorms, which we could use more of this year. Summer flowers are also quite lovely, though they'll all be wilting soon if we don't get a few thunderstorms. Oh, and fireflies! Who doesn't love fireflies?

How many times you had a fun on summer?

Hmm... summer isn't really a fun season for me. I've never liked heat; and ever since my chronic illnesses hit me, I've been more likely to lose consciousness or enter an involuntary altered state of consciousness in hot weather. On the other hand, I have had plenty of good times in summer. I remember going camping with the family in a campsite where my parents owned a lot out in the woods, hanging out with friends I met there, spending days swimming in the pool or banging rocks together to make them crack into pieces. There were also fun trips to Ocean City with friends in high school right around the time spring shades into summer. Summer cookouts can be great fun too, as long as the mosquitoes aren't biting very much (if they are, they will be biting me. Skeeters adore me).

What mostly you like to do during summer time?

Wish it were winter. Oh, the weather here was nice this past Wednesday through Friday--but now Mother Nature remembers she wanted to replicate Hell on Earth this year, so we'll be having high temperatures near 100° F for the next week.

What I really like to do in summer is sit reading in some air-conditioned place, so the library will be seeing a lot of me for the next couple of months.

Do you like the place where you live?

Yes, I do--except in the summer! The climate is pleasant from fall through spring, this neighborhood is lovely and tree-filled while still being close to everything that a non-driver like me needs, and the streets are generally good for walking. My main complaints are that the DC area as a whole has so much air pollution this time of year and that the lights are so bright at night I can hardly see the stars. Since there are other reasons why I should probably continue living in an urban area, I am happy to live in this one.

If you have given a chance, do you want to live in a tropical country?

Since I don't deal well with the heat and I do love snow, I'm going with a big NO here. I'd love to visit someplace tropical, though.
